Online casino and poker room operator, Piggs Peak, has won their leave to appeal the High Court judgement on the jurisdiction of online gambling transactions in South Africa.
In a communication sent out by Piggs Peak management today, they said : "This morning we were granted leave to appeal against the adverse judgement delivered by Judge Tuchten in the Pretoria High Court on 20th August 2010.
This good news entitles us to re-open the Internet Casino today in terms of the High Court rules which suspends the previous judgement.
In view of this ruling, there will be an appeal in the Bloemfontein Appeal Court at a future date to finalize the legality of online gambling in South Africa."
Piggs Peak trading under license to Casino Enterprises, a Swaziland licensed entity, has been at the forefront of a legal battle with the South African regulatory bodies. Local authorities are attempting to stop all international online gambling operators who promote their services to local players, without being licensed to do so.
BLUFF SA Magazine can further confirm that Silver Sands has resumed operations following suspension of their services earlier this week. They were unavailable for comment, however posted this notice on their poker room website :
"Please be advised that leave to appeal the decision by the High Court has been granted. This means that a decision regarding the legality of online gaming will be decided after the law has run its course. We can therefore resume our normal operations and continue offering online gaming services to the South African public."
African Palace Casino was still unavailable for comment and their website advised they were still closed for business. |
