Moving the goalposts With poker's meteoric rise in popularity, the rules need to be dynamic to change with the times. Never before have officials had to make up rules seemingly on the fly and the WSOP is the benchmark for poker rules. Over the years, the WSOP officials have been adding new rules or massaging existing rules to ensure that the game stays modern and sportsmanlike.
The latest version of the World Series of Poker Tournament Rules was released in March this year by Harrah's. According to Pokernews.com, among the notable additions and changes to the 97 rules are a brand new "Code of Player Conduct," a revision on the rule regarding the use of profane language at the table, and an extension of the restrictions on sponsor logos at televised feature and final tables. Here at BLUFF magazine we would sometimes struggle with the anti-profanity rule.
Within the new "Code of Player Conduct," Rule 30(B) codifies the continued expansion of the "civility and courtesy". These concepts were first broached in 2008 with the inclusion of Rule 36 (now Rule 37), the so-called "Hevad Khan Rule" that prohibited excessive celebration. Once again, something we here at BLUFF could find to be problematic. Those airplane victory bouts around the table have become somewhat of a signature move for us. We also mix it up with that dance move where you hold your one foot up behind you and then vigorously wiggle your leg back and forth.
Violations of the Code of Player Conduct will result in: groot kak. We could have listed all the possible penalties, but it amounted to boring legalese, so we translated into Afrikaans for you guys. If you're in the mood to wade through all that official sounding stuff then DOWNLOAD the 2009 WSOP rules.

Local poker star Jarred Solomon has cashed early in his WSOP 2009 poker tour. After having a great showing in the Aussie Millions earlier this year, Jarred placed a decent 24th in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em/Omaha event. Jarred pockets $7,918, which is not bad at all considering he was up against Daniel Negreanu; Erik Seidel; Phil Hellmuth; and Alexander Kostritsyn.
