After two years of consistent performance, it's great to see Jay Sookoo get to the top of the BLUFF SA Poker Player Rankings. For me to be dethroned from the top of the rankings is the right result for a few reasons.
Firstly, I have played a very limited number of events over the past year and I have relied too heavily on my past results, so it is good that the top spot now belongs to someone else.
Maybe coming off the top of the rankings will inspire me to play a few more tournaments and hopefully motivate me to get back to my old winning ways.
Well done Jay, but don't get too comfy in my spot.
Take a look at how the rankings have been shaken up with the results of the past month, with the results from All Africa Poker, Royal Swazi Rumble and Matrix Millions.

Are you one of the 106 players registered and getting ready to rumble this weekend at the Royal Swazi Rumble?
If not, you should think about it. Among the big names travelling through are Darren Kramer and Greg Ronaldson. Unfortunately I will have to sit this one out due to prior golf tournament commitments. The tournament organizers are confident that a full field of around 120 will be met, and the estimated prize pool is a cool Million Rand – a very good reason for you to think about going through for this one!
The guys at Ace High Poker are still accepting late registrations, R12,500 gets you your R10k seat, plus accommodation for yourself & a mate/partner at the Royal Swazi Spa. You’ll start with 30,000 chips and the blinds are 45 minutes.
Tonight they are hosting a Big Cash Game – R100/R200 and R200/R400 … min buy-in is R20,000 and R40,000 respectively, so if you have a strong heart and deep pockets, don’t miss out on this action cash game.
If you want to find out anything further on the tournament, give Matt a call on 083 457 4199, or click here to register May the best player win!!

8 August 2010
While many have spent the week recovering from serious bad beat hits and celebratory hangovers after the All Africa Poker Tournament last weekend, others have been preparing for the next round of tournies which are taking place across the country.
Among these tournaments are the GrandWest Casino Series of Poker, which is taking place this weekend in Cape Town, and the satellites for the SilverStar Casino set to take place on Monday 9th August, and of course the Ace High Royal Swazi Rumble VI Freeze Out taking place from 20th to 22nd August.
Someone recovering from pain of a different kind, is international poker pro Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, who was injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident this past week while on holiday in Oregon. News of the accident was broadcast across Twitterville, not only by Laak (from the emergency room!) but also by his best friend Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari via their Twitter accounts.
Esfandiari tweeted : "At hospital with poor @RealPhilLaak in Oregon. We went a little 2 crazy atv'ing in the doons. Broke 7bones. Ouch," and included a Twitpic of an injured Laak in his hospital bed.
From the photo on Laak's Twitter account, this was a pretty serious accident. "The Unabomber" sustained severe lacerations around his right eye, with a significant amount of swelling and some bruising. His right arm has been immobilized in a temporary cast and the fractures appear to be internal and not compound, which bode well for recovery. In the photos, Laak appears to be in good shape overall, but could also be under some medication to alleviate any pain issues.
Laak was in pretty good spirits during the ordeal (or had really good pain meds!), Tweeting throughout, http://twitter.com/RealPhilLaak: "Atv accident, massive arm injury and lacerations to eye in oregon. Life is good."
Get better soon Phil, hope that check/raise/all in hand is still in good shape. Rhino

Pieters turns over A 4 off to Convery's A 8 off Flop: 10c Kd 4c - M J takes the lead Turn: 9h River: Jc M J knocks off another player and keeps growing his stack.

Bennie eventually lets go and Matt Horsey Train shows 9 9. Bennie exposes an Ace.

Hand 36: Thomas raises to 120k and Neil Andrews moves all-in from the BB. Thomas makes the call and the pot is over 700k. Thomas shows Ah Kh and Neil 9d 9c. Flop: 2 5 10 Turn: J - giving Thomas four more outs River: 7 Neil doubles up and is back in business with an average sized stack.
Blinds: 20,0000/40,000 Antes: 4,000 Average Stack: 726,000 Players Remaining: 8 Next Blind Level: 25,0000/50,000 (ante 5,000)
Ryan still in command Jul.31, 2010 Here are the standings as we go to dinner:
Seat 5 Ryan Eber 1,387,000 Seat 10 Bennie Lingenfelder 956,000 Seat 3 Chris Convery 895,000 Seat 1 MJ Pieters 868,000 Seat 4 Thomas Toich 644,000 Seat 7 Robert Sham 424,000 Seat 8 Neil Andrews 392,000 Seat 6 Matt Train 347,000
The big winners of the first session are Bennie, Chris and Thomas who all added to their stack whilst Neil has lost the largest percentage of his. Ryan is as stable as ever and still comfortably in the lead although the gap has closed and there are more serious contenders.
Sham doesn't want to gamble Jul.31, 2010 Hand 31: Thomas flat calls the blinds from early position and M J obliges with a check from the BB. Flop: 9 6 9 - all check Turn: 8- all check River: 4- all check Thomas takes down the pot with Ace high.
Hand 32: Sham flat calls from middle position. M J completes from the S B and Chris checks his option from the BB. Flop: Q 8 8 - Sham bets out for 95k and the blinds let go. Sham shows A Q - another flop hit.
Hand 33: M J flat calls from the button but Chris from the SB is having none of that and puts in a raise of 100k. BB Thomas folds as does M J.
And in the last hand before dinner:
Hand 34: Robbie Sham raises to 100k from early position but his party is spoiled by Thomas Toich's all-in from the SB. Robbie folds and shows J J! Thomas obliges and shows A Q. It would have been a race but Robbie did not want to gamble at this stage - had he won the hand however, he would have been in great position for the second half of the final table.
It is dinner time. Play will commence again at 20h30.
M J gets stronger Jul.31, 2010 Hand 28: Neil raises to 90k from UTG and is looking good for the win until the action comes around to Robbie Sham in the BB. Sham makes the call for another 60k. Flop: 2h 4h Kh - Robbie moves all-in for his remaining 257k. Neil deliberates for a while and even says that he has the Ah. He eventually lets go and Sham shows A K for top pair. Mrs Lingenfelder adds her two cents worth with a "Ja skelm jockey."
Hand 29: Bennie in the mix again with a raise to 85k. No customers this time.
Hand 30: M J raises to 80k from under the gun and is called by Thomas and Matt. Neil also makes the call from the small blind. The pot is at 374k. Flop: 8h Ks Qs - Neil checks and M J continues by betting 200k. Noone liked the bet and M J takes down the hand. He flips over K Q for top two pair!
A few more hands remain before the dinner break.
Mr and Mrs Lingenfelder Jul.31, 2010 Hand 25: Chris raises from the SB to 74k. Thomas in the BB moves all-in and it is another 202k for Chris to make the call. He eventually does and the red all-in lights come on. Chris turns over A 5 of clubs and Thomas shows 6 6 Flop: 5 J J - Chris hits but Thomas has a better two pair Turn: 2 River: 7 Thomas Toich doubles up and can breathe again.
Hand 26: Bennie raises to 70k and Ryan Eber makes the call out of the BB. Flop: 4 4 3 - Eber checks and Bennie puts out a bet of 60k. It is good enough for the win and Mrs Lingenfelder again embarrasses her husband with her exuberance.
Hand 27: Bennie raises up to 80k this time and no one feels like taking him on. Mrs Lingenfelder's excitement cannot be contained as her "Engel" wins another pot.
Gordon gone Jul.31, 2010 Gordon the grinder Hand 23: Chris raises from middle position to 72k. Robbie moves all-in inspiring the blinds to get out of the way and it is another 146k for Chris to make the call. After much muttering Chris exclaims that it's a sham (I bet Robbie has never heard that one before) and folds his hand.
Hand 24: Anthony Gordon in the cutoff survives without any raises before him, so he makes his all-in move with almost no fold equity for his last 53k. Chris Convery has to make the call for another 23k from the BB. Anthony shows Qh 5h and Chris A 7 Flop: 10 7 8 Turn: 10 River: 4 Anthony Gordon is eliminated in 9th place and wins R 125,000.
Blinds: 10,0000/20,000 Ante: 2000 Average Stack: 726,000 Players Remaining: 8 Next Blind Level: 15,0000/30,000 (ante 3,000)
Train and Toich put on the pressure Jul.31, 2010 72k in the pot as the hands begin with only the blinds and antes!
Hand 19: MJ raises to 60k from the hijack and Chris reraises to 120k from the cutoff. M J makes the call. Flop: 5 A 6 - M J bets 100k and Chris moves all-in. M J folds.
Hand 20: Thomas Toich raises to 60k and is called by Matt Train. Flop: Ad 7s 9s - Thomas bets 60k and Matt moves all-in. After a very long time, Thomas makes the reluctant fold.
Hand 21: Everyone folds round to Matt Train who raises to 75k from the cutoff. The raise was designed to pick on Anthony Gordon and his very small stack in the BB. It worked
Hand 22: Thomas Toich moves all-in from middle position for his remaining 208k. Bennie in the BB reluctantly lets go of his K J offsuit.
Blinds: 15,0000/30,000 Antes: 3,000 Average Stack: 645,000 Players Remaining: 9 Next Blind Level: 20,0000/40,000 (ante 4,000)
Bullets for Eber Jul.31, 2010 Hand 17: Chris Convery raises by 45k from the SB and is called by Thomas Toich from the BB. Chris checks dark again. Flop: J 8 A - Thomas bets 45k and Chris gives it up.
Hand 18: Neil flat calls and it is good enough for a call from the SB by Thomas. Ryan Eber spoils the party and raises by another 65k from the BB. Neil makes the call and Thomas gets out of the way. Flop: Jh Kh Qd - Ryan bets 85k and Neil folds. Eber shows A A.
The blinds increase.
Hand 16: Bennie raises to 50k from the cutoff and is reraised by Frano from the SB to 120k. Bennie makes the call. Flop: Kh 3s 5s - Frano ships the baby and is called by Bennie. We have our first at risk all-in! Bennie shows K Q and Frano J J Turn:A River:4 We have our first exit. Frano Lottering is eliminated in 10th place and wins R 110,000.
Blinds: 10,0000/20,000 Ante: 2000 Average Stack: 645,000 Players Remaining: 9 Next Blind Level: 15,0000/30,000 (ante 3,000)
Bokkie blasted Jul.31, 2010 Hand 13: Neil raises his button and collects the blinds and antes
Hand 14: Frano raises to 64k from UTG. Everybody folds including M J from the BB who looked like he wanted to play.
Hand 15: Neil raise to 65k from hijack and is reraised by Bennie from the button 160k. Neil snap-calls and we see a flop: 3 Q 9 - Neil bets out with 100k and after an interminable amount of time Bennie lets go. No "Bokkie" this time.
The big stacks clash Jul.31, 2010 Hand 11: Chris raise to 47k again but this time Ryan Eber obliges with a call. Chris checks dark and the flop is 2 J Q - Ryan bets 75k and Chris goes over the top with his all-in bet. Ryan gives it up.
Hand 12: Bennie Lingenfelder raises to 55k and gets no callers. His wife in the galler does shout "Polish hulle Bokkie!"
Blinds: 10,0000/20,000 Ante: 2000 Average Stack: 581,000 Players Remaining: 10 Next Blind Level: 15,0000/30,000 (ante 3,000) Comments (0) Posted by: piggsadmin Category: July Sham takes a hit Jul.31, 2010 Hand 9: Robbie Sham raises from early position to 60k and is reraised by M J to 120k. Sham makes the call. Flop: 10 10 3 - Robbie bets out 75k and MJ reraises him all-in. Robbie lets go and MJ screams "Baby"
Hand 10: Chris raises to 47k and gets no callers
30 minutes left at this level
A bit more adventurous Jul.31, 2010 Hand 6: Ryan Eber raises to 55k and gets respect.
Hand 7: M J Pieters raises his button to 50k and is called by Chris Convery in the BB. Flop: 4 8 A - Chris bets out with 50k and MJ lets go.
Hand 8: Neil and Bennie flat call from middle position as does Chris from the SB. This is juicy ineogh for Thomas Toich who moves all-in. All three players let go and Toich shows Q Q
Feeling each other out Jul.31, 2010 Hand 1: Neil Andrews raises from middle position to 64k and draws first blood.
Hand 2: Robbie Sham from the SB follows Neil's example with a raise to 47k and he takes the blinds and antes.
Hand 3: SB Neil, BB Anthony Gordon and Frano Lottering go to the flop in an unraised pot. Flop: 4 2 5 Frano bets and takes it down.
Hand 4: Matt Train raises to 46k and wins the hand
Hand 5: Neil raises to 64k and wins the pot. He then runs out the room to check on the next race for his pick 6 and jackpot predictions.
The Final Table The R3 million All Africa Poker Tournament for July 2010 is at the Final Table stage. Here are your players in their seats: MJ Pieters Seat 1 Frano Lottering Seat 2 Chris Convery Seat 3 Thomas Toich Seat 4 Ryan Eber Seat 5 Matt Train Seat 6 Robert Sham Seat 7 Neil Andrews Seat 8 Anthony Gordon Seat 9 Bennie Lingenfelder Seat 10
In a few hours one of these players will be R1 million richer.
The button is on Seat 5 and the clock has been rolled back so we will have a full hour at this blind level.
Blinds: 10,0000/20,000 Ante: 2000 Average Stack: 581,000 Players Remaining: 10 Next Blind Level: 15,0000/30,000 (ante 3,000)
Final Table experience, Will it count? Jul.31, 2010 Three of our ten finalists have been under the spotlight before. Frano Lottering came sixth in the February 2009 Tournament earning R225,000. He will certainly be trying to improve on that performance and with at least ten rotations in hand, he will have a fair chance.
This will be Ryan Eber's 5th All Africa final table! With winnings of over R1,5 million in his previous four cashes including a fourth place finish, two thirds and a win, he is the man to beat. He also has a massive advantage in that he holds 26% of the chips currently in play and out chips his nearest rival by 2:1. As it stands, Ryan Eber must be the favourite for his second title.
Chris Convery is the man who has managed to convert his final table appearances into wins. In his previous three final tables he has come 9th once and taken every single chip on the other two occasions. He has slightly less than Eber in total winnings only because his first win was only worth R400,000 in the early days of the tournament. With an above average stack and lying third in chips, Chris will be the most dangerous competitor at the final table.
As to the other seven players facing the bright lights and the TV cameras for the first time... Good Luck Gents.
The Final Table Decided Jul.31, 2010 Congratulations to the final ten. Well played and well done to get so far. The first hurdle has been successfully navigated and now the last big one awaits. Playing for R1 million! Here are the chip counts heading into a massive payday!
Ryan Eber 1,518,000 MJ Pieters 834,000 Chris Convery 701,000 Bennie Lingerfelder 612,000 Neil Andrews 533,000 Robert Sham 451,000 Frano Lottering 368,000 Matt Train 354,000 Thomas Toich 272,000 Anthony Gordon 165,000
Play will start again at 5pm when we will be reporting hand for hand.
Dayani Bubbles Jul.31, 2010 Hagai Dayani held out and held out but it was all to no avail. He did get it in with the best of it against Chris Convery but his luck did not hold out. His A Q was out flopped by Convery's A J and never caught up.
Hagai Dayani bubbles at the 21st All Africa Poker Tournament in 11th position. For his excellent play he does get an entry into the November 2010 All Africa Poker Tournament.
Well played Hagai!

All Africa Poker - on the other side of the table 31st July 2010
So, that was All Africa Poker from a player's perspective. My debut at this tournament ended for me in 16th position .... aaaargh! So close to the money. In my exit hand I had J J but came up against Chris Convery's K K, he spiked the King on the flop and that was the end of my tournament. Ryan Brauer didn't get to celebrate his 30th birthday with a cash either, but Neil Andrews made me look good by reaching the final table and ended in 7th position. This is how Neil’s final hand went down :
Neil makes the call but MJ Pieters raises the stakes by 150k. Neil makes the call again.
Flop : 8d 3d 9h – MJ bets on the innocuous looking board and all the money ends up going in. Neil shows K Q and MJ flopped top set with 9 9! Turn: Ace River: Ace
No help to Neil and he’s sent on his way to fetch his R165,000 cheque!
Play continues as the final 6 players duke it out for the Million Rand first prize. Bennie Lingenfelder is the only threat to my top position on the Bluff SA Rankings, as he currently has 587 points, a win or second place could move him right up at the top. That's all from the flop side today! Rhino

28th July 2010
Time is flying this year and it’s hard to believe that seven months have already passed! It feels like yesterday that the All Africa Poker team were heading down to Piggs Peak Casino in Swaziland, to run and film the March tournament, and here we are again with preparations in full swing for the second AAPT for 2010.
My favourites for this tournament : Ryan Brauer - as always - and then you can’t discount Jay Sookoo, who has been playing great poker recently. Of course with Jarred Solomon and Greg Ronaldson coming off hot performances at WSOP 2010, they are up there among the local supporters’ top players.
I always have to put money on Neil Andrews, the brilliant SuperSport and Betting World presenter, and sometimes brilliant poker player - he’s hoping to beat his 30th place finish from last year, let’s just hope he uses some of the tips I’ve taught him!
I am finally heading to Swaziland as a player. What a novel experience that will be for me. It will always feel like home, even though I have never played an All Africa. This is my first one, so wish me good luck!
All the best to the AAP team, Michael Collet & his production crew (these guys put in 18 – 20 hour days over the weekend to make this tournament work so seamlessly!) and of course, to the players who make the tournament such an entertaining show!
